Does anyone know what person/persons (names) this lake was named after? I am a Freeland descendant and am working on our Freeland genealogy. Interestingly, my grandmother (Annie Freeland) taught school on the Pine Ridge Reservation in the 1800’s. She lived there with two small sons. When the Ghost Dance began, she wagon trained up to Spearfish with the sons. Her husband (my great grandfather) was an Indian agent and teacher in Cashe, Oklahoma during this time and unfortunately, was killed. Any information/history you can share regarding Freeland would be most appreciated. Thank you.
